go_pro_logoPADI INSTRUCTOR DEVELOPMENT COURSE (IDC) & THE INSTRUCTOR EXAM (IE)

PADI-IDC2The PADI Instructor Development Course or IDC is conducted by PADI Course Directors and Staff Instructors. IDC programs run over a period of around 14 days for a basic IDC package up to around 24 days for a more comprehensive package. Varying packages inbetween are available to suit peoples differing budgets and time available. The longer programs include other courses such as the EFRI course which allows you to teach the First Aid required for the Rescue Diver Course. Other sections can include a whole range of other Specialty Training allowing you to teach any one of a number of PADI Specialty Courses. Normally 5 are chosen allowing the Instructor to qualify as a MSDT (Master Scuba Diver Trainer) after they complete the required number of certifications. These extra courses make you more employable as an Instructor in what is becoming an increasingly competitive industry. In order to participate in an IDC you must have been diving at least six months from your Open Water Course certification date and have 100 logged dives or more.

PADI INSTRUCTOR COURSE INTERNSHIP OPTION

PADI-IDC1smallThe longest option is an internship which takes between 2 and a half months and 6 and a half months depending on your present level of diving qualification, how long you have been diving and the number of dives you have logged. If you have never dived before an internship allows you to start from Open Water Diver and build your diving experience and then leadership experience working alongside Instructors and Divemasters within a Dive School. The culmination is the completion of your PADI IE (Instructor Exam).

THE PADI IE

PADI-IDC3The Instructor Exam is conducted by Examiners from PADI and runs over 2 or 2 and a half days. The IE examines your theoretical knowledge in all required areas as well as your classroom and in water teaching and presentation skills. Both confined and open water evaluations are conducted. Your rescue skills are also examined. The IE's have a set schedule around the world and the IDC's run by the Course Directors are scheduled to fit in with the IE.

IE Schedule Notes:

1. The timeframe of the IE may vary depending on location, logistics and numbers of candidates. The most likely timeframes are; a) Evening Orientation and exam(s) followed by two days of evaluation. b) Morning Orientation followed by all evaluation over remaining two days. Refer to the dates below for an indication of the timeframe of any particular IE. These may change as circumstances dictate.
2. The schedule is subject to change. Be sure to use the most recent edition. You will find the most current IE schedule in the Instructor Development Calendar on www.padi.com
3. While every effort is made to conduct all scheduled IE's, PADI reserves the right to cancel, reschedule, relocate or combine IE's as staffing logistics and enrollments dictate.
